Built in 1812, the log courthouse is the oldest existing courthouse in Indiana.
Built in 1902 and designed in Neo-Classical style, the Pennsylvania Depot was designed by a world famous architect named Daniel Hudson Burnham and is one of the area’s most prominent landmarks.

In 2019, Fountain City received a designation on the National Register as a historic district. This community, which started in the early 1800s, has a variety of buildings and homes that show a range of architectural styles.
Non-denominational academies called county seminaries opened across Indiana soon after statehood. Wayne County Seminary opened at present day Spruce and School Streets in 1829 and by 1835 offered elementary to collegiate level classes for male and female students.
