Did you know that Richmond played a major role in shaping early jazz and blues history? 🌟 The Gennett Records Walk of Fame honors legendary Black musicians who recorded groundbreaking music right here in our city!

Icons like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Jelly Roll Morton walked these very streets and recorded at Gennett Records, helping to lay the foundation for modern jazz and blues.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the Levi and Catharine Coffin House State Historic Site in Fountain City, Indiana - a beacon of courage and compassion in the fight for freedom. Known as the “Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad,” this home provided safety to more than 1,000 freedom seekers escaping slavery.

Levi and Catherine Coffin, unwavering in their commitment to justice, risked everything to offer shelter, food, and hope. Their story is a powerful reminder of the impact that everyday people can make in the pursuit of equality.

Visit the Coffin House to walk through history and honor the bravery of those who fought for freedom.

Sometime in the 1840s, William Bush, a freedom seeker from Person County, NC, arrived in Newport (now Fountain City). Oral history states, Bush escaped from bondage by having himself shipped in a wooden crate to Newport in the care of Levi Coffin.

Bush died in 1898 and is buried at Fountain City’s Willow Grove Cemetery. The wooden shoes he once wore are on display at Levi and Catharine Coffin House State Historic Site
