Winter Family Fun in Richmond-Wayne County, IN

When winter hits, Richmond-Wayne County, Indiana erupts with excitement. Whether your prefer adrenaline inducing activities or leisurely stroll, you’re sure to find something that suits your needs in Wayne County.

The Richmond Meltdown Festival is taking place January 23 through January 28. This festival will include the Mega Meltdown Throwdown which will showcase ice sculptors creating magnificent designs out of 1200 pounds of ice. Explore the Family Fun Zone and walk among the ice sculptures, participate in games, indulge in food, and browse artwork and vendor pieces.

Cope Environmental Center, located at 1730 Airport Rd., Centerville, IN allows visitors to walk their snowy trails. All trails can be explored between dusk and dawn everyday. A unique trail, the Jim Cope Conifer Trail, has a variety of pines, spruces, larches, cedars, and firs from around the world which makes it a trail with regional significance! This trail offers a stunning experience when the ground and tree branches are glistening with white snow! While you’re at Cope, check out their newest art exhibit featuring breathtaking photos of nature by Stephen Weddle!

Clear Creek Park located on West Main Street between NW 11th St. and NW 13th St. and Glen Miller Park located at 2514 National Road East allows for park goers to snowboard and sled on the snowy park hills.

Hayes Arboretum, located at 801 Elks Road in Richmond, IN, has several pairs of snowshoes available during their business hours (Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm). There is no monetary cost but they do require your car keys or driver’s license as collateral for the shoes. You can explore the grounds by bringing your own skis, too. These activities are based on the amount of snow we receive. If the cold isn’t quite your thing or maybe you just need a break, check out the Arboretum’s bird viewing room. This cozy room allows you to admire nature comfortably from inside.

Just a short five minute drive to New Paris, Ohio, Valley’s Edge. They offer snowtubing at 8295 State Route 121, New Paris, Ohio. Along with adrenaline-filled snow tubing, they have cozy lodge rentals and tasty concessions. Their rates vary by age, party size, and by duration.
