Tracking the best tenderloins throughout Richmond and Wayne County Indiana
You are getting hungry… you are getting very hungry! Why not loosen your belt a few notches and sample a few pork tenderloins? Richmond and Wayne County are home to some seriously good eats — here’s where to find the best local versions of Indiana’s signature sandwich.
Lumpy’s Café in Cambridge City is the old-school OG; the whopping breaded tenderloin they’ve been serving here since 1908 has amassed a serious fan following through the years. Across the street, No. 9 Grill cooks up its own very respectable hand-breaded interpretation garnished with lettuce, pickle, onion and tomato.

A little further to the west on U.S. 40, the Hilltop Drive-In may be better known for its soft-serve ice cream in cups, cones and sundaes, but also offers a tasty grilled tenderloin sandwich as well to enjoy in its modest dining room. And likewise at the Dairy up S.R. 1 in Hagerstown! And family-style dining is the perfect environment in which to enjoy a tenderloin — grilled or breaded, your choice — at the Eatery in Fountain City.

Richmond proper claims its own delicious selection of choices to consider. Legends Southside’s hand-breaded Kaler’s Penguin Tenderloin, prepared using the same recipe served at a popular long-closed local fast-food chain, is certainly legendary around these parts. Meanwhile, the meaty breaded tenderloins at Little Sheba’s, a Historic Depot District mainstay, make for a super-satisfying lunch or dinner.

Belly up to the counter at AJ’s Diner on Main Street to order a classic fried tenderloin with chips (we won’t judge if you eat it for breakfast). Or, pop into Smiley’s Pub downtown to feast your eyes and stomach on the thick-cut tenderloin seasoned with a hint of spice. MCL fans can head over to the Corner Café at the historic Leland to find their favorite tenderloin sandwich.

Perhaps the fanciest option of the bunch, the Old Richmond Inn breads and fries or grills its pork tenderloin sandwiches to order before topping with lettuce, tomato and red onion to serve alongside chips, potatoes, fries or fresh fruit.
