Take a Trip of a Lifetime During the Solar Eclipse in Wayne County, IN!
The 2024 Solar Eclipse is right around the corner, and as luck and fate would have it, Richmond lies directly in the path of totality. On April 8 at 3:07 p.m., the greater Wayne County region will go dark for nearly four minutes during this once-in-a-lifetime astronomical experience!
To make the most of the celestial event, The Eclipse Task Force has assembled a lineup of more than 50 fun activities for guests to explore during their visits. With clear skies and wide-open spaces, there are plenty of great spots to view the eclipse itself. In addition, local green spaces, attractions, historic sites, organizations and restaurants are teaming up to offer a whole lot more to discover before and after the main event.
Why not make a weekend of it? Fireworks, a car show, Nashville recording artist, juried art fairs, drone show, farmers’ markets and parades are all on tap as a prelude leading up to the eclipse on Monday afternoon. Rock out with tributes to Led Zeppelin, Journey and Disturbed; catch a live Richmond Civic Theatre production of “These Shining Lives” or Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s “American Landscapes” performance in the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center; or make plans to attend a candlelight tour of the Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site in Fountain City.
The largest party is shaping up to be “Eclipse & More 2024” — a festival-style celebration at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Richmond’s west side packed with four days of music, exhibitors, food and entertainment.
Don’t get blinded by the light. Wherever and however you choose to mark the occasion, be sure to grab a pair of certified eclipse glasses for safe viewing, along with a selection of other eclipse-related merchandise, at the Old National Road Welcome Center in Richmond.
