Reap the rewards of harvest season in Richmond / Wayne County
Summer’s slowly starting to fade away and fall is right around the corner — it’s harvest time in Wayne County! East-central Indiana’s fertile fields and rolling rural farmland lend themselves nicely to agricultural endeavors, and visitors are fortunate enough to reap the many abundant rewards this time of year.

Golliher Farms
Late summer is prime season for sunflowers, and there are several Wayne County locations where guests can stop by to snap some selfies amid expansive patches of blooming beauty. The Barn at Helm in Williamsburg, Jones Family Farm in Milton and Golliher Farms in Cambridge City all maintain their own showy fields of sunflowers to visit (when in bloom), along with u-pick flowers and fresh produce for sale.

Hayes Arboretum
As autumn arrives and the regional foliage shifts into shades of red, gold, orange and brown, head to the Cardinal Greenway Trail, Riverside Heritage Trail, Hayes Arboretum in Richmond or Cope Environmental Center in Centerville for a leaf-peeping hike to get a little fresh air and appreciate the vibrant fall colors.

Jones Family Farm
October means it’s time to pick a pumpkin! Whether your preferences run toward big or small squash in all shapes and sizes, you’ll find plenty to choose from at Jones Family Farms (pumpkin patch opens September 9th) with 8 acres of pumpkins and 150 varieties or Dougherty Orchards which has been family owned for 139 years. The Amish pumpkin patches dot the landscape of Wayne County and offer a large variety of locally grown pumpkins. Hop on the wagon at Wesler’s Orchards in New Paris, Ohio to enjoy a scenic ride to the pumpkin patch Saturday, September 24th and then every Saturday in October.

Dougherty Orchards
Take the kids on a fun fall adventure to tackle the seasonal 24 acre corn maze at Today’s Harvest in New Paris, then pop by Wesler’s Orchard and Farm Market to stock up on apples and sample some delicious fresh cider. The oldest family-run operation of its kind in Indiana, Dougherty Orchard in Cambridge City also offers pick-your-own apples with 33 varieties perfect for pies or eating out of hand, u-pick sunflower fields, live concerts on Friday evenings as well as a petting zoo, fresh cider, homemade donuts, donut sundaes and an on-site winery. Cool down with a cool treat at Ullery’s Homemade Ice Cream as they release their pumpkin spice flavored fall favorite!

The entertainment doesn’t stop! Richmond Civic Theatre delivers a spooky good time with Legend of Sleepy Hollow October 7-9th. Endless fall events will leave you with bountiful things to experience.
