Not all trails lead to nature!

Not all trails lead to nature! Stop in the Old National Road Welcome Center for a variety of themed trails and activities to select from that will lead you on adventures throughout Wayne County.

The new Black History Trail celebrates Wayne County’s proud African-American heritage by commemorating musical, cultural and entrepreneurial contributions within the community. Trail stops include the Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site and Interpretive Center (one of the most significant Underground Railroad stations of the entire movement); the African Methodist Episcopal Church founded in 1836; and Exhibition Park, former home field of the Richmond Giants, part of the Negro League Baseball League, between 1907 and 1960.

Younger visitors love searching for sprites, elves, pixies and other magical creatures along the Fairy Trail, a collection of charming miniature dwellings found in shops, museums, gardens and cafes across Wayne County. A new element, take a photo in front of one of the many new Fairy Wing interactive photo ops! For something a bit more active and archaeological, take the kiddos on a Fossil Hunt near Thistlethwaite Falls in the Whitewater Valley Gorge to earn stamps in a passport available online or at the visitor center.

You never know what hidden treasures you might discover along Indiana’s Antique Alley, a 1,000+ dealer stretch of U.S. 40/Old National Road west from Richmond through Centerville, Cambridge City and on across to Knightstown. Keep your eyes peeled along the way — and throughout the rest of Wayne County — for the colorful works of art that comprise the Mural Trail, a beautification project encompassing more than 80 large-scale paintings created by a diverse roster of artists.

The sweetest adventure Wayne County has to offer, the Chocolate Trail dips into 14 local candy shops, ice cream parlors, cafes and stores where visitors can flash a digital passport to receive free samples and discounts.

Whichever journey you decide to pursue, don’t forget to download a free digital Perks Pass to take advantage of exclusive discounts at fun attractions, tasty restaurants and friendly shops.

With so many activities to complete, you’ll need more than one day to explore! Make a reservation at one of the many comfortable accommodations available, and have time to explore all the themed trails mentioned.
