Experience the Dog Days of Summer
No need to leave Fido at home — if you’re visiting Richmond / Wayne County with your dog in tow, you’ll be happy to know that many local businesses, lodging, parks and attractions go out of their way to make four-legged friends feel right at home.
They say every dog has his day, and there are certainly plenty of ways to show yours a good time in Wayne County. Start with a leashed walk through the region’s well-kept green spaces. Explore the expansive Glen Miller Park on Richmond’s east side, stopping for a drink of fresh spring water from one of the public-access spouts. Or, take a leisurely scenic stroll on the Cardinal Greenway that runs through the Whitewater Gorge. Dogs are also welcome on the hiking trails at Hayes Arboretum; just don’t forget to clean up any “presents” they might leave along the way.

If your dog prefers a more free-range adventure, head to Hill’s Bark Park at Middlefork Reservoir for free access to a fence-in facility that stays open from dawn to dusk. After getting your exercise in, treat your pooch to a refreshing pup cup at Ullery’s Ice Cream in the historic Depot District.

Enjoy a coffee on the pet-friendly patio at Roscoe’s Coffee Bar & Tap Room, tacos or margaritta’s at Lulu’s Tacos, or perhaps a pizza on the Red Front Pizza & Grill patio, For a sweet souvenir, drop by the Paint the Towne art studio in downtown Richmond to immortalize your furry friend with a dog paw print bowl.
