Breakaway from the busy spring break destinations and spend some time exploring Wayne County’s museums and exciting attractions. When you visit, you’ll find plenty of family-friendly and kid-approved fun awaiting you with most being free or very low cost! While this list isn’t comprehensive, it provides a wealth of information and ideas.  All of the trail brochures and informational brochures can be found at the Old National Road Welcome Center, 5701 National Rd. E, Richmond.
There’s a unique experience awaiting you that will make you feel like an paleontologist! The Whitewater Valley Fossil Hunt is a free passport program designed to educate visitors about our fascinating past and promote experiential tourism in eastern Indiana. The fossils found in the Whitewater Valley give us some idea of what life was like in Indiana 445 million years ago. Start by picking up your passport and collect at least 5 fossils to receive your prize! Richmond, Wayne County has many gorgeous trails for visitors to explore. Your options are endless with Cope Environmental Center, Hayes Arboretum, Whitewater Gorge, and Cardinal Greenway! Consider biking the Cardinal Greenway. Bike Rentals are available at the Cycling and Fitness Warehouse located at 213 N 3rd St., Richmond! If you’re looking for a breathtaking view explore Thistlethwaite Falls!

If the weather is a bit adverse for outdoor plans, put on your fairy wings and head for a magical time along the Enchanted Fairy Trail. The Enchanted Fairy Trail takes visitors on a fun and unique adventure through Wayne County stopping at over 30 locations offering fairy homes and gardens with more being built and added to the trail. The Welcome Center even has an interactive photo opportunity where with just a click of your camera, your child can have a lasting memory of becoming a fairy! If your children have an active imagination this is the perfect opportunity to spread their wings and experience the magic first hand!

You can’t go wrong with free chocolate and that’s something the whole family can agree on! Richmond and Wayne County’s self-guided journey down the Chocolate Trail takes you to a one-of-a-kind ice cream parlor, amish market, candy shops/factories, gift shops and more. Chocolate is featured at each stop and is presented in many different forms. Satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth by visiting all 10 businesses located in the passport.

For an educational and hands-on activity, follow in the footsteps of Freedom Seekers at the Levi & Catharine Coffin House State Historic Site, stare down a dinosaur at the Joseph Moore Museum, learn about your favorite football players at the Indiana Football Hall of Fame or visit the only two mummies in the whole state located at Joseph Moore Museum of Natural History and the Wayne County Historical Museum.
