When the leaves start to change, there’s no better way to appreciate autumn’s beauty than some quality time in the great outdoors. The hiking trails at Hayes Arboretum and Cope Environmental Center come alive with color in September and October, turning everyday walks in the woods into something extraordinary. Enjoy the beautiful fall colors and the sound of water rushing alongside you with a walk along the brand new, must see Riverside Heritage Trail.

Fall is apple season, and the greater Richmond area offers plenty of rustic locations to make the most of it. The oldest family-owned operation of its kind in Indiana, Dougherty Orchards (est. 1883) in Cambridge City celebrates its annual harvest with delectable apple cider donuts, dumplings, wine and other treats, and also maintains an on-site petting zoo for little guests to explore.

Just across the Ohio state line, Wesler Orchards gives visitors the chance to get out among the trees to pick their own fruit. Another New Paris fixture, family-owned Today’s Harvest sells seasonal produce, flowers and gift items, and constructs a corn maze for guests to discover each fall.

Pick up pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks for Halloween and home décor at one of the the quaint Amish farms throughout the county including the locally well known Amish Pumpkin Patch. And bring your camera to snap selfies in the gorgeous sunflower fields at one of our many sunflower fields including: Golliher Farms in Cambridge City, The Barn at Helm in Williamsburg, over 8,000 pumpkins at Jones Family Farm in Milton, and just outside of Wayne County is Modoc Gardens and Today’s Harvest.
