Break away to Richmond / Wayne County, Indiana this spring

The weather’s warming up, and kids are starting to look forward to spring break. With so much to see and do this time of year, it’s easy to make the most of a week off right here in Richmond and Wayne County.
Watch the outside world wake up from its winter slumber with a fresh-air hike at Hayes Arboretum or Cope Environmental Center, keeping an eye out for seasonal wildflowers (and maybe even mushrooms if you’re lucky). Or, borrow a bike — for free! — from Cycling and Fitness Warehouse and take a spin along the Cardinal Greenway that runs through the scenic Whitewater Gorge.

Rainy days don’t need to curtail a single second of your fun. Take it inside to explore the fascinating exhibits of the Wayne County Historical Museum and the Joseph Moore Museum of Natural History on the Earlham College campus. Each holds one of the only two authentic Egyptian mummies in the entire state of Indiana.

Kiddos love pizza, and there’s no better place to enjoy the hometown favorite than at Clara’s Pizza King where you can sit in a double-decker bus and call your order into the kitchen using an old-school tabletop phone. After dinner, or for a sweet afternoon delight, beeline to Ullery’s Homemade Ice Cream in the historic Depot District.

And no spring break is complete without an overnight stay in a hotel with an indoor pool for some splashy swimming fun. Wayne County offers several cozy options to choose from, including the Best Western Classic Inn, the Baymont by Wyndham Richmond (formerly the Comfort Inn), the Hampton Inn and Suites Richmond, the Home2 Suites by Hilton Richmond and the Holiday Inn Richmond.
