In Full Bloom: Discovering Richmond’s Gardens and Beyond

Now is a great time to get outside and explore our area, for fun-family trips, an abundance of flora shopping and discovering gardens and beyond.

Amish greenhouses are located all over Wayne County, and shopping excursion for baskets, planters, house plants, veggies, seeds, and countryside views are must do’s when visiting. Whether your goal is to add pops of colors to residential or commercial areas, patios, or just sharing blooms to create smiling faces, our area have you covered. Come fill up your trunk, truck bed and trailer, with the perfect palette to relish all season long. The lavishness and selection will leave you longing for more.

All hands are on deck during the peak season of u-pick flowers, strawberries, and pumpkins at Jones Family Farm. This farm is truly a family affair, and they even offer freshly picked corn at their roadside stand. The Barn at Helm Experience offers a summer concert series, where you can relax in the great outdoors, while being serenade by artists. Don’t forget to attend their u-pick flower farm, which is great for photos, making family memories and romantic strolls.

During the month of June & September,The E.G. Hill Rose Garden comes alive with hundreds of striking roses, each baring their soul for guests to marvel at during this explosive showcase of life at its fullest. Stop and share a moment in the gazebo or bench by the fountain to truly be present with each bloom.

The annual Secret Garden Tour on June 27th & 28th, gives participants the opportunity to visit some of the loveliest gardens in Richmond and Wayne County. In addition to the gardens, the tour features the Garden Vendor Market where tour-goers will be able to browse lawn and garden booths with unique items to accent and elevate any landscape.

Make sure to stop by Hayes Arboretum and hike on one of the many trails, visit inside the Nature Center, and keep a watchful eye for wildlife as you journey along. Hayes Arboretum offers visitors a front row seat, to a museum of living trees. It is a great place for photographers, hikers, families, and nature lovers to sightsee.

Lavender is blooming in rows at Dougherty’s Orchard! Get out to the country and enjoy a petting zoo, flower farm, apple orchard, and winery. In June, make a trip to the oldest orchard in Indiana for its annual Lavender Festival. This family-fun-day will be filled with artisans vendors, lavender inspired products and more. Make it a photo opportunity with butterfly wings as the backdrop on your special day.

No matter what type of day trip or getaway you are seeking, there’s surely one that will sprout up to your expectations while visiting.
