When school lets out, kids are looking forward to warm, sunny days and some epic summer fun. Richmond/Wayne County is the perfect getaway destination for exciting, summertime adventures!

When you visit Wayne County, you’ll find plenty of family-friendly and kid-approved adventures. While this list isn’t comprehensive, it provides a wealth of information. A full list of to-do’s and to-see’s can be found at www.visitrichmond.org. All of the trail brochures and informational brochures can be found at the Old National Road Welcome Center (5701 National Rd. E, Richmond).
Fossil Hunt Passport – The Fossil Hunt Passport is an amazing way to keep your child’s mind active and learning outside of the traditional classroom. You can pick up your passport at the Old National Road Welcome Center.
Hiking Trails – Richmond/Wayne County has many gorgeous trails for visitors to explore. Your options are endless with Cope Environmental Center, Hayes Arboretum, Whitewater Gorge, and Cardinal Greenway! Consider biking the Cardinal Greenway. Bike Rentals are available at the Cycling and Fitness Warehouse located at 213 N 3rd St., Richmond! If you’re looking for a breathtaking view explore Thistlethwaite Falls!
Scavenger Hunt – The Scavenger Hunt is a fun booklet that allows you and your children to explore Wayne County and its attractions, such as local parks, museums, unique shops and more! You can work together as a family or make it a head-to-head challenge as you search for items, answer trivia, and enjoy the family fun!
Enchanted Fairy Trail – If your child has a magical mind and is consumed by the wonderful world of fairies, then they will love our Fairy Trail! On this trail they will be able to explore Wayne County while searching for whimsical fairy houses and fairy gardens.
Kids Stuff Brochure – This brochure features a slew of kid friendly activities! Be sure to grab this brochure at the Welcome Center before beginning your spring break fun!
For an educational and hands-on adventure, follow in the footsteps of the Freedom Seekers at the Levi & Catharine Coffin House State Historic Site or stare a down a dinosaur and check out live reptiles at the Joseph Moore Museum. The Joseph Moore Museum is home to one of the only two mummies in Indiana. The other is located in Wayne County as well at the Wayne County Historical Museum.

Give their minds a break and unleash their inner artist by painting pottery at Paint the Towne. Daydreamers can get closer to the clouds at Hoosier Hill, the highest point in Indiana. After an expedition through Wayne County, they will surely need a cool down. Indulge with Ullery’s Homemade Ice Cream then head to the Glen Miller Park for a splashin’ good time at the splash pad!
